I’m Catherine Mulvihill

I’m a Dyslexia Specialist, Primary Teacher, Consultant & Entrepreneur currently based in Ireland.

I specialise in helping individuals with dyslexia to understand themselves, their challenges and their potential. The workplace can present obstacles but with correct guidance, support & information we can promote an inclusive working environment.

Knowing that dyslexia is hereditary and the need for early intervention, provides us with an opportunity to support the individual and their children prior to formal education and throughout their developmental years. Linking organisations knowledge of dyslexia with education will benefit the generations to come and create a more inclusive and diverse workforce.

Here’s how I came to do what I do.

In 2017 on completed of my Masters in Education I joined the talented team of teachers in one of the 5 reading schools in Ireland. There I developed my awareness, understanding and skillset in how to adapt the environment and teaching methods to support an individual with dyslexia. 1 in every 5 people have dyslexia. It is a spectrum and no two people are the same. We all learn and develop differently. However, the ability to understand, listen and find solutions to problems is a unique skill I possess. Although I remain professional, I do believe in forming bonds and connections with the individual/group.

In 2018 I opened a private after school reading school in Tralee, Co. Kerry providing a structured English intervention to small groups and individual primary school children. In 2020 we moved all classes online. This has allowed us to support families around the country of Ireland and it is hoped further afield in the coming year. We have supported over 120 children in their learning and personal development. English classes, workshops and Health & Wellbeing summer camps were all tailored to the individual child and their needs.

Currently, I am a student on the MA in Applied Linguistics 2022/23 at Mary
Immaculate College with my key focus on understanding language acquisition
and second language acquisition for learners.
